Sarah loves music – she likes all the crap that seven year olds are prone to, plus things like Led Zepplin, Thin Lizzy, The Darkness, Madonna, and I often find her dancing around to whatever is playing on Planet Rock, and when I posted that vid of Goldfinger on Channel 136 I found her doing a strange sort of running on the spot/pogo style dance in the hallway as it played.
At Christmas she got the latest album by The Scissor Sisters. I was going to give it a spin first to check the content, honest! But didn’t – well, there was no “parental guidance” sticker thing on the front.
Anyway, typically for my daughter her favourite track, the one she knows all the lyrics too and sings along with, has the line “I wish you were dead” and various other such sentiments set to a very jolly tune and in there somewhere is the word Fuck.
We were sitting on the sofa and the subject of her favourite song came up.
“You do know that there is a very rude word in that song don’t you?”
“Yes, but it’s not a very nice word to say”
“So you won’t be using it at school or anywhere will you?” (Feel free to let rip at church – No no, bad daddy)
“No. It’s a bad word to use”
“Well thank fuck for that”
I so almost said out loud.
